Exporting Entire Manymoon Account in XML Format

If you're a Platinum member, you can export your whole account as XML.

To learn more about this feature, please see https://www.manymoon.com/misc/help?goto=faq#expData.
Also, so you can see the result of an XML export, attached is a sample XML export I created of an account that only contains one project. This project is called "Event Planning Project" and I created it from a publicly available template.
To add this project to your Manymoon account, go to home->create project, call it Event Planning Project, click on "show options", click on "select from gallery". The template "Event Planning Project" should be the second one displayed. Click it, then click "select", then click "create"
You will now have a project that matches the attached XML file exactly and you can compare the two.

To export your team's data, do the following:

  • Login as the Manymoon administrator
  • Click "Manage"
  • Select the "Site Admin" tab.
  • There is an option to request for an export of your team's data
  • Once you click "Request an export of your team data", if you click refresh you should see another link titled "Download exported data here."
  • Click the "Download exported data here" link to get the XML download

NOTE: This process only works once every 24 hours. If you want to get another XML export, you must wait at least 24 hours and then repeat steps 5-6. If you repeat 5-6 before 24 hours have passed, you will simply get the exact same XML file as before.

So you can see the result of an XML export, attached at the bottom of this article is a sample XML export of an account that only contains one project. This project is called "Event Planning Project" and it is created from a publicly available template.

To add this project to your Manymoon account, go to home->create project, call it "Event Planning Project", click on "Select from gallery". The template "Event Planning Template" should be the second one displayed. Click it, then click "Use Template", then Save the new project.

You will now have a project that matches the attached XML file exactly and you can compare the two.

Using the XML

Once your account is exported as XML, you can parse it and extract the data in any format you like, for example CSV. One good free tool can be found at http://www.xml-converter.com

Do you have the XML schema for this available?

Mark,

Is the sample export file attached to this article not sufficient? If not, I'll see if I can get an actual schema from the engineering team.

We are a platinum member and exported the xml. Of course we can try to reverse engineer the schema. But it would be better to have the full original schema: we then know what can be in the xml (it could be missing in our export because we didn't use a specific field up till now) and no guessing / trial-and-error. The schema is necessary for the tools we want to use to generate our own reporting. I suppose the engineering team has the schema readily available...

Hey, it turns out we don't have an official schema document. Unfortunately you're going to have to reverse engineer it from the actual output. My best suggestion would be to simply identify the major object types (task, project, etc.) and see if there's a difference between what you get in the XML and what's actually in Manymoon. Sorry, I don't have a better suggestion.

Will the tags ever be included within the export?

This would be nice ;-)

I agree, Tags are pretty essential for sorting by user etc., do you think they can be added to the export? and when could that happen? thanks.

Tags will most likely not be added to the export in the near future. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience.

We need to be able to easily export projects to current industry standard tools such as Microsoft Project. Some of our vendors and customers can't easily interface with Manymoon so having this ability is a necessity. I really like Manymoon but if it can't integrate with other solutions then I can't use it because the headache of recreating projects is not worth it. If I have to create the same project twice then it makes more sense to just use the more widely accept Microsoft Project to begin with.

I'm upgraded to platinum ($50) then purchased the recommended XML-Converter ($50) above and it still doesn't produce anything that will work with MS Project. $100 wasted!

SUGGESTION: Please make your XML export compatible with Microsoft Project's XML Schema. If not I think you'll find more and more users start to abandon your service.

Chad--Sorry it didn't work out. The XML Converter won't automatically put Manymoon's XML files into MS Project format--that's impossible without some custom work, no matter what tool you're using. But XML Converter will allow you to extract the information from the XML file in table (CSV) format, which you can then hopefully manipulate into proper MS Project import format.

Thank you for your suggestion, we will definitely take it into consideration.

This doesn't work from my account anymore, however, I have a request for all my documents for legal reasons. What can a gal do to get the information out of Manymoon in a format that is usable for documentation purposes?
