Working With Tags

What is a tag?
A tag is one or more words used to label something (e.g., a task or a project).

Typing tags into Manymoon

Unlike some other applications, tags in Manymoon can have spaces. While typing a tag into a tag field, you can indicate the tag is done by typing a comma (,). At this point, the tag should be accepted by the system.

What can I tag in Manymoon?
You can tag tasks, projects, documents, links and events.

What's the point of tagging?
Tagging is useful since you can use it to:

  • Categorize projects or tasks - for example, you might have a project called, "Move into San Jose Office" and another project called "Move into San Francisco Office." You could tag each of these projects with 'office move'. This will help you categorize the projects, people and tasks associated with 'office move'.
  • Add required skills for tasks - For example, you might have a task called, "Follow up customer support tickets," and another called, "Review open customer issues with management." You could tag each of these tasks with, 'customer service'.

As you complete a task that other people have assigned to you, the tags from that task will automatically be added to your tag cloud. This means your Manymoon profile becomes a living resume that displays your work expertise as you are expanding it!

How do I use tags?

  • Search for projects, tasks, documents, links and events - Go to your home screen to see your tag cloud on the left side of the screen. The tag cloud is sorted in alphabetical order, and the size of each tag indicates how often it has been used. To search, click on any tag to see the list of projects, tasks, documents, links and events associated with it. (See below for how to use the tag search screen.)
  • If you go to a project, the tag cloud will only show tags relevant to that project.

How many tags can my tag cloud have?
You can have an unlimited number of tags in your tag cloud or per project. For example, each time you complete a task with a tag, that tag will be added to your tag cloud. You can accumulate as many tags as you want. It is, however, beneficial to have the same tags repeatedly added to your tag cloud. Each tag will become larger as you close more tasks associated with that tag.

Using the Tag Search Results screen

Clicking on any tag in your tag cloud will take you to the tag search results screen. In the example below, the tag "drilling" in the tag cloud was clicked.

If you want to change the tag you are searching on, you should click "Clear all tags" or the 'x' in the drilling tag, and then select another tag from the tag cloud on the left hand side of the screen. Note that if you click another tag without clearing the existing tag, you will wind up searching on both tags.

Searching on Multiple tags

When you search on multiple tags in Manymoon, the system shows you only the data objects that contain ALL the chosen tags. (In more technical terms, the system does an "AND" search instead of an "OR" search.)

In the example below, the system is showing all objects that are tagged with both "drilling" and "railroad". Note there is only one result.

Please put back the filters in the tag search results page for each item (Ex: show only open tasks; show only unarchived projects, etc) as was in the old interface.

Getting a long list full of completed tasks and archived projects when you're trying to focus on ongoing work doesn't help at all.

Hi,

I need to clear, erase tags. Can you explain me how to do it?

Thanks!

Thanks. I hope you can get those tag filters working asap. It is critical to be able to focus only on what is unsolved instead of having to look at a very long list of completed tasks and archived projects and trying too weed out only the active ones.

Yeah, just bear with us for a few days. Also, you always switch back to the old version when you need to do a tag search. You can even keep the old version open in another browser tab in the same browser.

Hey Mark,

I just updated http://support.manymoon.com/entries/302200-how-to-remove-tags to make the steps a bit clearer. I also tested it myself and it worked. Can you please try once more to follow the steps? If it still doesn't work, let me know.

HI,

I am a new user of Manymoon thinking of upgrading the version but before that want to clarify some points:

1. Please let me know that can i make a Tag in which i can create the sub Tags.

2. Add team is restricted to licensed version only?

3. Data export functionality is available only in XML format only with Platinum Version? or some other formats are also available?

Regards

Nitin

Nitin --

1. We do not support sub tags, but you can add multiple tags to any taggable object.

2. Actually, each new team requires a new paid subscription. However, most users only require one team. The "Add Team+" link is there for the small number of users who want extra paid teams.  Please see http://support.manymoon.com/entries/374963-understanding-manymoon-t...

3. You need platinum to do the XML. For more information on export please see http://support.manymoon.com/entries/334205-understand-various-manym...

Nitin--Sorry, but our search functionality doesn't include profiles. You can suggest this in our feature request forum at http://support.manymoon.com/forums/256366-feature-requests

Hi,

If I create a Task inside the Project is it possible that the new task will automatically obtain all the tags assigned to that project?

Thanks!

No we don't have inheritance like that. You have to manually add the tags you want to the task.

This is actually a know bug that makes it impossible to remove the last tag on an item. We are working on it. In the meantime, as a workaround you should add a "garbage" tag to the item. You can then remove the important tag.

Very sorry for the inconvenience.
